Reunion 40

Our 40th Reunion Information

It’s hard to believe that any of us are old enough to be out of high school 40 years – crazy, right? It seems like only yesterday Mrs. Carleton was teaching Beowulf. Ugh! That brings back memories of “coffee and cigarette breath” and napping with my head on the desk. It also brings back great memories of all us growing up together: Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Alabama (“Elvira” – Giddy Up, Oom Poppa Oom Poppa Mow Mow), cruising the Best Yet Parking lot and Sonic, Shelly Huffines in her Gilley’s T-Shirt (Jeans and Boots, too), the Homecoming Queen candidates parading around the football stadium sitting on hay bales.… ‘merica at its finest.

The weekend of September 17-18th has been selected for our 40th Reunion. Here’s an outline of the plan:

  • Friday September 17th, starting at 6:00PM, we’re going to have a casual meetup at Social Capital in Oklahoma City. It is Downtown by Scissortail park surrounded by convenient parking. For more details and to RSVP, go to: https://mhs1981.com/event/friday-night-mixer/
  • Saturday September 18th, starting at 6:00PM, we’re going to have the actual Reunion party. We’re meeting at Crew Workspace on West Main Street in Downtown OKC. We’ll have the Chestands BBQ Food Truck there for dinner. For more details and to register and pay, go to: https://mhs1981.com/event/saturday-night-party/
We’re still waiting for someone to organize a golf outing on Saturday morning. When you do, please let Clay know the details and he’ll update this page.

We’re also opening the event up to everyone that is/was from the Class of 81 that we ever went to school with (K-12 in Mustang). That includes the likes of Joey Tinsley, Darla Pitts, Kevin Eaton, Cindy Metts, Lyndle Smith, Gidget Shultz, Rod Johnson, Janelle Parker… just to name a few. If you know how to contact anyone from our past, please let them know about this page.

Also, here’s a little project that Clay put together over the past few months. It’s a picture of everyone we ever went to class with, K-12, from all of the yearbooks we were in. It’s a series of spreadsheets that have the individual photos embedded in them. It will help you recall both the people we graduated with and the aforementioned that graduated from elsewhere, like Eric Hardesty, Terry Harper and Eric Poulsen. COVID Guidance

The Reunion and COVID

First, masks and vaccines can be “triggering” subjects, whether you believe in them or not. It’s safe to say that we have both extremes within our ranks and all points in between on the subject. (and if you want to debate it, please go somewhere else to do so)
Many within this group have lost family members, and as a class, we’ve lost at least two of us because of this dastardly disease: Monte Moyer and Doug Carmin.
The Committee has discussed how we’re going to proceed with the Reunion in light of COVID:
  • First, we recognize that we’re all rational adults who are capable of making our own decisions.
  • We’re not in favor of requiring masks. However, if it makes you feel more comfortable, you won’t be disparaged for wearing one. And likewise, you won’t be disparaged for not wearing one. Masks are not required, but respect is expected.
  • Most of us are probably out in the public sphere every day and are around people that are unmasked and haven’t gotten a shot. So, if Social Distancing is effective out in the world, then our venue is big enough to support it. Please respect everyone’s personal space.
  • We are going to supply a wrist bracelet for everyone to wear one. It will not reveal your vaccination state, but it will communicate your social preference. The bracelets are color-coded: red, yellow, green. Where:

RED – Don’t touch me and please maintain a safe distance
Yellow – I’m good with a fist bump, but make it quick
GREEN – Hug me, I’m yours

We will bring some of the bracelets Friday night and we’ll have them at check-in. There’s an additional cost for these, but it will be a worthwhile expense.

  • We will also have a few bottles of hand sanitizer at the venue on Saturday night. But feel free to bring your own.
